Let’s Get in Tune.. ahhhh FRESH!

Good morning!!!!!! I am really excited to post today. I wanted to tell ya’ll about my yoga class last night. It was an “Introduction to Yoga”…and to be honest it was super easy! I guess that’s good because I have not practiced regularly for a while now. I had an amazing experience, it was so relaxing and I felt so at home in the studio. It was beautifully lit with candles and everyone was really nice and made me feel welcome. To my suprise, the instructor even came up to me and introduced herself, she could tell I had never been to that particular studio before but was not condescending at all.

After I got home from yoga last night, I spent a long time on the phone with my friend from school. It was so nice to speak to her because I feel like it’s been such a long time since I’ve been at school! I knew I wanted to go to another class this morning, so I prepared myself some overnight oats!

In the mix:

  • 1/2 c. oats
  • 1/2 c. pumpkin
  • Allspice
  • fresh nutmeg
  • cinnamon
  • 1/2 c. Vanilla Silk Soymilk
  • 1/2 Rotten brown Banana (i love them like this!–really sweetens up the bowl)

So when I got up, I took them out of the fridge and they looked like this:

dsc02984SO i heated it up (took about 5 min. on highest power) and threw in some Mighty Maple PB!!! I let that peanut butter last the entire bowl. Finished product:

Speaking of PB ~ yes I forgot,  I restocked:

dsc02998I got all the flavors (even two of my fav.) except crunch time and bees knee’s. Oh myyyyy!!!!!!!! How long do u think this will take me to get through? I say 2 months! hahahahhaaha

Yesterday, I made Organic Homemade Toothpaste. It is economically friendly, and they say that if you use this stuff for a week, and then go back to your old Crest/Colgate/Scope, all  you can taste is chemicals. Pretty cool huh? It’s SO EASY, ya’ll have to try it and let me know what you think. I got this idea from the Big-Ass Book of Crafts by Mark Montano.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Baking soda
  • Zest of 1 Organic Lime (the skin)
  • 20 drops of peppermint oil
  • a cool jar!

Directions:

First, get a plate and use a thin grater (like mine below) to get the skin off the organic lime. STOP GRATING WHEN YOU GET TO THE PITH-THE WHITE PART!

dsc02965

Let that skin dry for two hours. Then, place it in a jar and give it 20 drops of Peppermint Oil, like the one pictured below.

dsc02977

Add 1 cup of baking soda to that jar. Start shaking it up !!!

dsc02979And voila…..your very own toothpaste! I had fun decorating the jar as you can see!!! I am a messy maker too –Mommy got mad :-)

Every time you use it, add some water and then dip your toothbrush inside. It tastes funky at first let me warn you-I am still getting used to it!!

The yoga class I took this morning was called:

Gentle Yoga (Kripalu)

This yoga class is a gentler version of the Level 1. It is a Kripalu-inspired, meditative class with longer holding for a deep, “in-body” experience. Lots of silence to enhance the peaceful nature of yoga. Emphasis on breath, trusting the body’s wisdom and Eastern philosophy. If you have issues with blood pressure, knees, shoulders, or other joints, this might be a better class for you than Level 1, and it is a good starting point for a new person.

The class was GREAT!! While we were in corpse pose at the end of the class, focusing on our breathing and drifting off, the instructor said some really cool line from a book, that the world is a delicate gem in the universe, its a true blessing that we are all present. It’s moments like these where I find myself thinking: why the #*!!*$~ do I care so much about weight? I know I am on the path to a better place-but seriously guys. I cannot think of a good reason to stay with Ed. In the moment, he offers care, support, love, comfort, and attention. But I am going to be that person for myself. My body is an independent portal-an object that takes me from one opportunity to the next. On this note, I am not sure if I have a new years resolution…to tell the truth I have not put to much thought into it all-but after taking last night’s class and this morning, I want this:

To get IN TUNE with my NATURAL BODY CYCLES & RYTHMS!

I have to admit, I am freaking good at detecting the first tingle of hunger and that of fullness as well. Sometimes, I even over-analyze the sensation (sound familiar, thanks ed!) But I want to be able to feel whatever my body is telling me, and then act on it right away, not think about, stress about it, worry about it. I want to allow myself to rest, exercise, eat, play, and work as necessary. I want to gain a more intimate relationship with myself, my core-my natural being. How’s that?

Okay yogi’s here’s my hero pose!

dsc02989and this is my fav stretch so far and has been for about a year:

I am going to a support group for family, friends, and those struggling with Eating Disorders at Renfrew Center in Wilton tonight. I am not sure if my mother is coming or not…we’ll have to see. She has been before and said there is not much of a turn up, but I think I want to check it out. I will let ya know how it goes! I am hungry for lunch now.

Question, for those who practice yoga, how many times a week do you practice? Signin off. 4 now… SEE YA!

  1. well it looks like someone is in PB HEAVEN! lucky you girl! I would have never even thought of making organic toothpaste – i can’t believe how easy it is! and i adore your little mason jar – definitely adds to the “homemade” feel.

Look at you rockin’ that bridge pose – even while trading kisses with your adorable pooch! I have a lot of trouble with this pose – I have such weak legs and they always give out :( . But you look SOLID here girl, way to go!

As far as how often I practice – I start off every morning with 15 minutes of just simple stretches to awaken my limbs and then I do real, legit classes about 3-4 times a week. Gotta love that mind body connection!

  2. What a great stock of peanut butter! I found a seller of Peanut Butter & Co. pb’s in my area here in Oregon! I got the Dark Chocolate Dream and White Chocolate Wonderful! Crazy delicious! I love them!

You’ve intrigued me with your homemade toothpaste!

  3. Hey Lee! I was so excited to read your text this morning and to see how much you enjoyed yoga! Love that hero pose, girl :) And, love your outfit, I knew you would find something to wear!
I do yoga almost every day, as you know. Probably 6 days a week, for sure. If I don’t practice I do not feel at peace, in tune with my body. After I practice I go through out the day with this inner peace that I can not explain. I feel healthy all day and I make healthy decisions, too. Yoga has been life changing for me. You know how much it has helped me through recovery. I am a different person because of my practice.
Haha, LOVE that PB stash, girl friend!!!! Too funny. And too delicious, for sure :)
And, that homemade toothpaste! How cool are you?
Enjoy your day, my love! Talk to ya later ;)

  4. Organic tooth paste! That’s awesome.

I visited the Renfrew Center in Wilton a couple weeks ago, it’s really nice there! Everyone was super nice and welcoming.

  5. HELL YES FOR YOGA!!! :-D

Good luck at the support group meeting!!

  6. Hey Lee. Love the Nikki smooch shot. My dogs do the same thing, and it makes doing yoga DVD’s at home a challenge. :)

I think your New Year’s Resolution is great. Why is so difficult to listen to and honor our bodies sometimes? Glad you’re making an effort.

Intrigued by your toothpaste. I love Kiss My Face aloe toothpaste, but it’s like $5 a tube. Maybe I should try making my own.

I give you 6 weeks to eat all the PB. Looks like already off to a good start with the White Chocolate & Mighty Maple.

  7. AMAZING oats!!! I miss my mighty maple, I can’t find it here! And I am SO envious of your pb stash! haha I would be through with that in two months tops!

Love the yoga poses, that “bridge” stretch is one of my faves as well…I haven’t practiced regularly in so long, I should really pick it back up :)

Good luck at that group tonight, let us know how it goes!

  8. I just did yoga (at home) for the first time today! I followed an online lesson and it was such a relaxing experience! I think once I get back to school I’ll be finding some yoga classes to add into my routine!

That bowl of oats looks so delicious and filling! I need to start trying more substantial breakfasts to get me powered through my morning!

I am, once again, blown away by your optimism and belief in yourself. I love seeing your blog pop up on top of my blogroll..I just know it’s going to put me into a good mood =]

  9. Your toothpaste jar is so great! I started using Tom’s of Maine toothpaste (w/ baking soda) YEARS ago and just got some of TJ’s stuff, which is basically the same, but cheaper. It’s so true that you get used to it; regular toothpaste tastes SO sweet and unfresh to me now!

  10. I do it every day, even if it’s only for 20 minutes.

You are awesome – yoga and making your own toothpaste!! V. cool.

  11. That is a niiiiiiice pyramid of PB, girl ;)

Look at you making your own toothpaste – how fun!!

The picture of your dog licking you is the cutest picture I have ever seen!

  12. i am so jealous of all your peanut butter! yummmmmm

i am enrolled in a power yoga class at school (yay for getting credit for something i love to do!) which meets twice a week for 75 minutes each class.

  13. I’m glad that you had fun at yoga! Corpse pose is actually one of my favorites, especially when you have a great teacher like that.

I love your homemade toothpaste! And your resolution too. Your blog has really helped me gain some healthy perspective, so thanks!

  14. I’m going to try that homemade toothpaste! I’ve been looking for a good toothpaste that doesn’t have lots of chemicals!

    PB ATTACK! haha

  15. Hey Lee! (your name is my middle name, fyi) :]

I’ve been reading your blog for the past month or so but since I JUST started my blog today it’s my first time commenting and I want to just say I love it so much! it’s totally inspirational and has helped me in my recovery as well.

and p.s-a big hell yeah for yoga, i’m starting to get back into it regularly after just practicing super sporadically and i’ve never felt better :D

    peace out-jenna

  16. So cute with your puppy there! My cat liked to sit on my stomach when I tried to do yoga, hehe. You’ll have to keep us posted on how well the homemade toothpaste works! Does it smell nice?

  17. A PB&CO tower?! AHhh! So jealous! Mine would only ever be able to make it three jars high because I’ve only ever seen three flavours here. I want the rest of them! Most especially dark chocolate!

I can’t believe you made your own toothpaste. I’ve never even heard of that before but it’s SUCH a cool idea. I’ll be bookmarking it for sure!

There has been so much yoga talk in the blogosphere lately that each time I am feeling more and more the urge to try it out. I’ve only ever tried a beginner’s dvd though so I haven’t exactly been thrilled by it yet. I really want to try HOT yoga!

    Hope the meeting goes well!

  18. so cool about the yoga, honey! Have a fun day… hope you got my email. Beauty from the inside, girl…. love it! Your dog is so adorable. You could say she was doing her down dog pose. ;) I posted some yoga on my blog too! I think it’s YOGA DAY. XOXO

  19. i’ve never tried yoga, but that homemade toothpaste looks pretty awesome! and your pb stock… oh my! Nikki is quite the cute :) Good luck tonight!

  20. I LOVE this post!!! Aww, I missed you while you were gone! Glad you’re back :) Wow! What a stock of PB!!! Want to send me a few?? I go through a “tub” or two a week! ;) I am loving yoga too! I actually took a class tonight. It focused on lower body and boy, was it AMAZING! What a nice instructor :) Sounds like you are really enjoying it. Keep going! :) You will fall in love hehehe. Sorry about the BF! When do you get to see him again? Have an AWESOME night girlie! Thanks for the comments :)

  21. ah…Lee…yoga is an amazing addition to any life but especially one that is walking away from an eating disorder. I used to practice about 4x per week (90 minute ashtanga classes) until I hurt my wrist. Now I do 2 gentle practices per week as part of my therapy group – yoga + group therapy + amazing women working towards recovery = pure bliss.

    shanti,
    nb

  22. It depends – In college I could take the course for credit so I practiced almost everyday!

Now, I try to do at least three times a week! It helps with my breathing and asthma SOOO much! I love love love it.

  23. I have never had that brand of pb but I assume you recommend it?? haha… it looks DELICIOUS! How exciting to go that support group too, even if its not a big turn out!
I <3 talking to friends far away too :-)

  24. Congrats on all that peanut butter! I’m really excited, I actually just won the Holiday Recipe Contest held by Peanut Butter & Co. Apparently the prize is a special holiday prize pack and while I’m not sure what that consists of, I can’t wait to get it!

  25. That’s cool that you make your own toothpaste!

  26. Your doggy is SOOOOO cute!!!! (as are you, Lee) :D I am so refreshed reading your posts!

Your PB collection looks similar to mine ;)

In response to your comment on my blog- asking about giving up cardio and replacing with yoga while trying to gain….well no that did not cross my mind. In my head I need the cardio, or else…. Ed talking, right?!?! what are your thoughts sweetie?

    You are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! xxxxxxxxxxxx

  27. Congrats to you on your goal of being an RD one day! I am enjoying my journey there! The recipe for my pumpkin french toast http://runlmo1.blogspot.com/search/label/Pumpkin%20French%20Toast

I added the labels back to my blog and pumpkin french toast is a label…

I dip the bread in the batter and put it in a pan on medium low, a few minutes on each side- it will smell great – then flip- then eat!

  28. Hi Lee! I’m ashamed to say that I have yet to say hello, even though I’ve been LOVING your blog for a little while now (forgive me, I just started up my own blog, yay!)

I think that you’re absolutely an inspiration, and should be so proud of yourself for how far you’ve come. You have such a neat personality that shines through your writing – homemade toothpaste?! I would never think to do that! I love it!

Also, your new year’s resolution is dead on – I need to resolve to learn the same. It’s hard to just go with what your body wants/needs after controlling it for so long, but 2009 is no better time to start!

Just wanted to say hello and come out of the shadows, I can’t wait to read more soon! =)

  29. In 8th grade I did a science fair exhibit on toothpaste. I dyed some cloth with tea and rubbed a variety of toothpastes on different parts. One toothpaste was homemade with plain baking soda and water. The baking soda blew away the competition. It erased nearly all the tea stain.

I love your blog, by the way. You’re a terrific writer!

  30. what an awesome idea, I wanna make my own toothpaste!
